Thales to upgrade SMART-L radars for BMD

The four air defence and command frigates of the Royal Netherlands Navy will be able in a few years from now to detect and track ballistic missiles at very long ranges. The Netherlands’ Ministry of Defence and Thales Nederland signed a contract for the upgrade of these long range radars for all four frigates of the “De Zeven Provinciën” class.

The Netherlands' Ministry of Defence and Thales Nederland have joined forces for the development of so-called Combat Management Systems (CMS) on board of naval vessels. The Netherlands Defence Materiel Organization and Thales Nederland have signed an agreement to this effect.

Thales Nederland has received a contract for the delivery and installation of sensors and a combat management system that will be installed on the four Al-Ofouq class patrol vessels that are to be built for the Sultanate of Oman.

HMS Van Speijk was the first of the two Multi-Purpose frigates to be equipped with a new mast. The ship has left the dock in Den Helder after completion of the regular maintenance activities and the M-frigate upkeep program.

Integrated Mast passes Factory Acceptance Test

The first Integrated Mast IM400 has successfully passed the Factory Acceptance Test. The FAT was attended by a delegation from the Netherland’s Defence Materiel Organisation and the Royal Netherlands Navy.


25th SMART-S Mk2

Recently the twenty-fifth SMART-S Mk2 was handed over from Final Assembly to Test & Integration. Enough reason for a small celebration with everyone who has worked on this radar over the past years.
